Succession Planning for Today’s Nonprofits

Oftentimes when we think of Succession Planning, we focus only on the CEO and Executive Director positions. When actually, we should be planning for the succession and transition of members of the Board of Directors and all Staff. So, here is a framework nonprofits can use:

  • U = make Use of the nonprofit sector network to fill positions.
  • C = Consider hosting a Q&A session about the positions with colleagues.
  • C = Consult with Talent Acquisition experts.
  • E = be able to Explain the skills and expertise that’s needed.
  • S = Showcase the uniqueness of each role on LinkedIn.
  • S = be willing to Share the need to fill a position every chance you get.
  • I = peak the Interest of candidates through social media platforms.
  • O = be Open to nontraditional recruitment strategies.
  • N = ensure the succession of board members and staff is positive News.
