Professional Expertise

Leadership and Management           

Manage the day-to-day operations of a nonprofit organization. 

  • Serve as manager and leader of community-based programs focusing on youth development, peer support for the elderly, mental health, and capacity building for human service agencies.

  • Train and support board of directors on fundamentals of governance and oversight relative to policies and procedures of a nonprofit.

  • Provide supervision to staff and volunteers who work with community-based and mental health programs.

  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and accreditation requirements for mental health providers in Guilford County and the state of North Carolina.

  • Monitor the bookkeeping and accounting of organizational revenues, expenses, and other financial resources.

  • Leverage resources to maximize use of limited funds and people to deliver services.

  • Foster community partnerships and collaborative relationships to advance the mission and vision of the agency.

  • Develop and implement strategic plan which includes visioning, asset mapping, goal setting, developing action plans, and plan design.  

  • Implement a capacity building framework (also developed this framework) for managing nonprofit organizations that serve as human service providers.

Manage the human resources, training, and organizational development functions of a North Carolina based mental health agency.

  • Supervise directors of consumer services and self-empowerment programs in three locations in Guilford and Pitt County, North Carolina.

  • Handle personnel administration of 200+ employees consisting of qualified mental health professionals, paraprofessionals, directors, clinicians, billing specialist, human resource generalist, receptionists, etc.

  • Coordinate and facilitate monthly management team meetings for agency President.

  • Provide supervision to qualified mental health professionals based on ongoing review of job performance and work as a qualified mental health professional.

  • Develop job descriptions and oversee employee performance evaluations.

  • Facilitate workshops and seminars with diverse groups of both mental health professionals and staff on case management and service delivery strategies.

  • Able to perform case management duties using best practices to ensure quality delivery of mental health services.

  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and accreditation requirements for mental health providers.

  • Coordinate site visits with county, state, and national accreditation teams and prepare pertinent documentation and reports.    

Manage and coordinate academic program in nonprofit leadership and management.

  • Make programmatic decisions relative to the scope and direction of the program.

  • Provide leadership in the day-to-day activities of the program relative to student advising, selection of faculty, identification and use of educational resources and materials, student recruitment, promotion and marketing.

  • Manage caseload of 60+ undergraduate students (year-round) on course selection, curriculum guidelines, practicum and internship procedures, and career development.

  • Serve as faculty mentor for adjunct faculty in the departments of Human Relations and Nonprofit Leadership and Management.

  • Direct a leadership center and professional development organization offering technical assistance and opportunities to learn more about managing nonprofit organizations.

  • Manage grant projects and implementation of proposal requirements.

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research in the area of organizational development and capacity building for nonprofit organizations.

Manage a consulting business that provides training, technical assistance, and one-on-one consultation to human service agencies and nonprofit professionals.

  • Manage and coordinate multiple projects and job activities with subcontractors to meet proposal commitments.

  • Provide technical assistance and training, for executive directors of nonprofit

    organizations, on how to assess the needs of communities from a geographic, demographic, and psychographic perspective.

  • Manage project budgets to ensure projects are in compliance with contractual agreement as determined by clients.

  • Facilitate the strategic planning process for a diverse group of nonprofits and assist with

    the development of strategic plans.

  • Train human service professionals using a capacity building framework (also developed this framework) for managing nonprofit organizations that serve as human service providers.

  • Coach community action teams through a comprehensive approach to implementing community and economic development projects in eastern North Carolina.

Program Development, Management, and Evaluation

Program Development

  • Develop and conduct community needs assessments and surveys to identify issue areas within communities.

  • Implement framework outlining steps for program development, management, and evaluation.

  • Direct and manage process for reporting and disseminating results and findings of needs assessment data and information.

  • Design and implement community-based programs as a result of identified needs generated from community needs assessments.

Program Management

  • Convene program advisory councils and groups as a resource for program management and evaluation.

  • Consult with human service professionals on developing organizational structures appropriate for coordinating and facilitating community and economic development projects.

  • Review and negotiate mini-grants/contracts and collaborative work plans with human service agency representatives in limited resource communities in 15 counties in the state of North Carolina.

  • Provide technical assistance to nonprofit professionals on how to leverage grant dollars to sustain community and human service programs.

  • Manage program budgets to ensure community groups maintain funding throughout the implementation of community and economic development projects.

Program Evaluation

  • Develop appropriate frameworks for evaluating programs that include the design of evaluation plans, identification of qualitative/quantitative evaluation methods, selection of evaluation staff, and reporting and disseminating information.

  • Design evaluation procedures for monitoring and reporting the impacts and progress of community and economic development initiatives.

  • Write formative and summative evaluation reports to communicate program intervention and enhancement strategies.

Training, Teaching, and Instruction
  • Instruct college courses in the areas of nonprofit leadership and management and human relations. Courses include: Counseling in the Helping Profession, Fundraising and Resource Development, Program Management and Evaluation, and Leadership Development.

  • Write and design syllabi and undergraduate college courses in human relations and nonprofit management.

  • Develop educational programs for adult learners in the areas of leadership, organization, community, and economic development utilizing adult learning techniques and strategies.

  • Utilize formal and informal modes of education to enhance the skills of human service professionals and executive directors of nonprofit organizations.

  • Construct learning experiences for leaders and nonprofit organizations, in a community setting, utilizing appropriate teaching methods.

  • Facilitate and design workshops for executive directors, board members, and community volunteers on how to write grants, establish nonprofit organizations, build collaborative partnerships, and develop strategic plans.

  • Conduct leadership development training sessions to build the skills of community volunteers and foster collaborative relationships between community citizens and human service providers.

  • Train community leaders on how to plan, coordinate, facilitate, and implement economic development projects by researching the market to determine the feasibility of business ventures, developing and writing business plans, and promoting community services.
