Ways to Recruit Volunteers to Serve as Officers on a Board

The Board of Directors of a nonprofit organization is represented by volunteers! Nonprofit organizations, now more than ever, are in need of volunteers to serve as officers of the Board in the roles of Board Chair or President, Vice-Chair or Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Not having volunteers in these positions hinder the ability of a nonprofit to achieve its mission and vision. Ways to recruit officers to join a Board of Directors:

  • Scout for Candidates: Show current board members how to scout for candidates by identifying and gathering information about potential officers based on what is needed.
  • Cultivate a Relationship with each Candidate: Train current board members on how to cultivate relationships with potential officers by introducing themselves as a board member and sharing the mission of the nonprofit they represent.
  • Ask the Candidate to Serve: Show current board members how to ask potential officers to volunteer and serve on the board of directors.
