Practice Resilience: From Response to Reform

“It takes resilience to recover from a change in anticipated funds and staffing resources when a nonprofit is confronted with a crisis. Here is a framework for resilience to navigate a nonprofit crisis.” – Dr. Pamela Palmer

  • Reaction to Response: Create a response plan with a taskforce when responding to a crisis.
  • Resources for Relief: Study and describe the crisis or situation and what is needed.
  • Reset to Recover: Identify changes that have to be made, to how we manage the nonprofit, as a result of the crisis.
  • Rethink to Reimagine: Review changes and decide what to keep and what not to keep after the crisis is over.
  • Restructure to Rebuild: Examine and change the mission, vision, and/or strategic plan, if necessary, after the crisis is over.
  • Reexamine to Reform: Advocate for change in practices, policies, and/or procedures as a result of the crisis – to lead and manage the nonprofit.
